Lice Are Easy to Confuse With Other Things
Dandruff, hair product residue, dry scalp — all of these can look like nits to a worried parent. And itching doesn't always mean lice either. Before you panic, before you buy every product at the pharmacy, and before you spend hours combing through hair at home — a professional lice check is the fastest and most reliable way to know exactly what you're dealing with.
At Jamie's Lice Angels, we do this every day. We know exactly what to look for and we'll give you a straight answer in just a few minutes.
What Is a Lice Check?
A lice check is a professional scalp inspection performed by a lice removal specialist. Here's exactly what happens at your appointment:
There's no guessing. No squinting at hair in bad lighting. Just a definitive answer from someone who does this every day.
A head check only takes a few minutes per person. If lice are found and you choose to treat at the same visit, the full treatment takes approximately one hour.
How Much Does a Lice Check Cost?
A head check at Jamie's Lice Angels is $10 per person.
Here's How the Pricing Works
- No lice found — you pay just the $10 and leave with peace of mind
- Lice found, no treatment today — you pay $10 and schedule treatment when you're ready
- Lice found, treat same visit — the head check is included in the $150 treatment cost, no separate charge
Treatment is a flat $150 per person regardless of hair length. There are no surprises — we always tell you what we find and what it costs before we proceed.

Who Should Get a Lice Check?
A lice check makes sense any time you're not sure. Here are the most common situations:
School Notice
Your child's school sent home a notice about a lice case in the classroom and you want to check your child.
Itching But Unsure
Your child is itching but you can't tell if it's lice, dandruff, or a dry scalp.
You Think You See Something
You spotted something in the hair but aren't sure if it's nits or just product buildup or dandruff.
Someone in the House Has Lice
A confirmed case in the household and you want to check everyone else before it spreads further.
After Home Treatment
You treated at home and want a professional to confirm whether it actually worked.
After Camp or Sleepovers
Your child just returned from camp, a sleepover, or any activity with close head-to-head contact.
Should the Whole Family Come In?
If one person in the household has lice, we strongly recommend checking everyone. Lice spread through head-to-head contact, and it's very common for multiple family members to be affected without knowing it.
Getting everyone checked at the same visit saves time and helps protect the results of any treatment. If lice are found on additional family members, treatment can be done right away at the same appointment.
Our satisfaction guarantee requires that all household members be checked and cleared or treated. This protects you from re-infestation from within the home — the most common reason lice return after treatment.
What Happens If Lice Are Found?
If we find lice or nits during your head check, you have two options:
Option 1 — Treat Right Away
We move straight into treatment at the same appointment. Our process removes all lice and nits in about one hour using our natural, pesticide-free enzyme treatment and professional comb-out. The $10 head check fee is included in the $150 treatment cost.
Option 2 — Come Back Another Time
If you need to arrange childcare, bring other family members, or just need a moment to plan — that's completely fine. We'll tell you exactly what we found and you can schedule treatment when you're ready.
What About the Follow-Up Head Check?
After treatment, we offer an optional follow-up head check 3–5 days later — also $10. Most clients appreciate the peace of mind of knowing everything is clear before the kids go back to school or activities.
It only takes a few minutes and we'll confirm that all lice and nits are gone. We ask that you schedule the follow-up no later than 6 days after treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need an appointment for a lice check?
Yes, we are by appointment only — no walk-ins. Call us at (586) 323-6080 to schedule. Same-day appointments may be available.
What if no lice are found?
You pay just the $10 head check fee and leave with peace of mind. We'll also let you know what we did find — whether that's dandruff, product buildup, or simply nothing at all — so you're fully informed.
Can I bring my whole family for checks at the same appointment?
Yes, and we encourage it if there's a confirmed case in the household. Each person is $10 for a head check, or $150 if treatment is needed. Call us to let us know how many people are coming so we can set aside enough time.
Is the lice check the same as the follow-up head check?
They're the same process but different appointments. The initial head check confirms whether lice are present. The follow-up head check — also $10, scheduled 3–5 days after treatment — confirms that treatment was successful and no lice or nits remain.
How do I prepare for a lice check?
Just come in with clean, dry or damp hair. If you've used any OTC lice products recently, let us know when you call — we may ask you to do an apple cider vinegar rinse first to remove any residue before your appointment.
